Peace & Prosperity

Project Year: 2023
Project Type: Video Documentary
Project Role: Ideation, Producer
Project Client: Cross Point Church

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In 2023, I was briefed to find a fresh, meaningful way to connect discipleship with the heartbeat of Middle Tennessee. The idea? Take Biblical principles and plant them firmly in the soil of Nashville; specifically along the historic Jefferson Street corridor. This project became a journey of both inspiration and education, bridging the gap between Scripture and the lived experiences of a community whose history is rich, complex, and still deeply relevant today.

“Peace and Prosperity” is a four-part documentary that explores Jefferson Street’s past and present, uncovering stories of resilience, culture, business, and faith. Through the voices of two key narrators, along with firsthand testimonies and historical insights, we dive into the struggles and triumphs of a neighborhood shaped by racial injustice, economic shifts, and the pursuit of something greater. These are real issues the Bible speaks to, and as we trace Jefferson Street’s journey, we find echoes of a timeless truth: God’s heart for peace, justice, and restoration.

At the core of this project is Jeremiah 29:7: “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” More than just a history lesson, this project invites viewers to see the connections between past and present, faith and action, struggle and hope. Because when we understand the stories of our cities, we’re better equipped to be part of their healing.

PROJECT EXAMPLES

PROJECT REFLECTIONS

WHAT WENT WELL?

  • Fully realized the brief; tethering biblical discipleship to Nashville in a tangible way.
  • The content struck a balance between education and inspiration, with compelling interviews.
  • Lots of people/parts across multiple film-dates, yet the production was cinematic and so engaging.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK?

  • The project lacked defined goals, leading to an unclear measure of success.
  • Production ran over-budget which meant Marketing had to be scrapped, and viewership was extremely low.
  • We didn’t capture enough b-roll, which limited our final edit.

1% BETTER:

  • A tighter post-production timeline could have allowed for additional artistic edits, and a long-form version of the content might have enhanced engagement.

FURTHER INFO

While Peace and Prosperity started as a creative vision for storytelling, it quickly blossomed into something far greater when the raw footage was reimagined into a powerful music video for The Choir Room featuring Ben Rector. The fun and soul-stirring moments struck a chord with audiences and judges alike, ultimately earning a Dove Award for Best Music Video from the Gospel Music Association. As Producer on this project, I was over the moon to see it honored in this way. Proof that when heart, harmony, and excellence come together, something truly unforgettable can unfold!
